Jassmine van Aardt, paediatric occupational therapist

A little about me

I'm Jassmine van Aardt (née Anderson) — a paediatric occupational therapist and mommy to a charming, very busy toddler.

I graduated with a Bachelor of Occupational Therapy from the University of Durban-Westville in 2012 and have experience working across mainstream and special-needs schools, hospitals, residential settings, private practice and home-based therapy.

My special interests include Autism, sensory processing difficulties and Sensory Integration. I completed specialised Sensory Integration (SIPT) training through SAISI in 2017 and EASI training through CLASI in 2022.

My son was born prematurely and spent time in the NICU, giving me personal insight into the journey of prematurity, monitoring development and supporting children as they reach their developmental milestones.

Today, I work with children, adolescents and young adults in my Amanzimtoti clinic, local schools and families' homes. I believe therapy works best as a partnership between the child, family, school and therapist — working together to help each child play, develop, participate and thrive.

My approach

Child-led

I follow the child's lead, using play and intrinsic motivation to create the 'just-right challenge' that drives real neurological change.

Family-centred

Parents and caregivers are essential partners. I provide practical strategies and home programmes that extend therapy into everyday life.

Evidence-based

My practice is grounded in Ayres Sensory Integration theory and the latest research in paediatric OT and neurodevelopment.

Collaborative

I work closely with teachers, paediatricians and other professionals to ensure a consistent, coordinated approach for every child.
